When animals go AWOL, zoos try to tame bad PR

When an escaped tiger killed a San Francisco zoo visitor on Christmas, it was the biggest blow yet to an industry that has been working hard to improve its reputation.

The problem: Some animals aren't cooperating.

In 2007, at least 10 animal escapes from U.S. zoos generated press coverage. Fugitives include a cheetah that scaled a fence at the St. Louis Zoo, a peacock that walked out of the Denver Zoo and took up residence on the front porch of a nearby house, and a geriatric spider monkey named Rena who jimmied open her cage door at the Dallas Zoo before being recaptured.

Still at large: an African white-backed vulture with a nine-foot wing span that squeezed through a fence in Dallas. "The general feeling was that she could survive out in the wild," says Karen Hamilton, a spokeswoman for the zoo, adding that the search is ongoing.

The Converts

AS FAR AS ALBERT ARIE is concerned, only archaeologists and historians should be writing about Egypt's Jews. “What is it about this Jew rush these days? Lately, everyone seems to be excited about the Jews of Egypt. Why? Did people just wake up and realize, now that there are no more Jews, that they should write about them? Journalists should write about current issues, and Jews are almost extinct in Egypt. So, why bother?" .

Tibet's March Toward Modernization

To sum up, the development history of Tibet in the past five decades since its peaceful liberation has been one of proceeding from darkness to brightness, from backwardness to progress, from poverty to prosperity and from isolation to openness, and of the region marching toward modernization as a part of the big family of China.

II. Tibet's Modernization Achievements

In the past 50 years, thanks to the leadership of the Central Government, the aid of the whole nation and the unremitting efforts of the people of all ethnic groups in the region, Tibet has kept marching forward along the road to modernization and made significant achievements that have attracted worldwide attention.

-- The economy has progressed significantly.

During the past 50 years, Tibet has witnessed tremendous changes in its economic system and economic structure and significant progress in its aggregate economic volume.

Analysis: no easy option for non-believers

While this may not be a problem for the lapsed faithful, for non-believers it is not an easy option. To secure a place in many oversubscribed faith schools, parents will be expected to go to Church, preferably with their children, every week for at least two years. And that is before the child has set foot in the premises.

Buying into the catchment area — an option that a majority of parents surveyed say they would consider — is not easy either as houses near the best schools can cost up to an extra £100,000.

Adams: Yes, I'm interested in Saints job

Adams is a decent guy as are many of the candidates proposed, I just cant help feeling that we need someone in the keegan mould who will ignite the crowd and players with passion and enthusiasm combined with a fast, powerfull tempo game. Saints are a very well supported club and have huge potential together with very high standards and morales so it should be an attractive job for the RIGHT person. I really dont know who the answer is but fear that Maybe Coleman and Adams etc might just be too mediocre and wont create the surge of excitement that the club badly needs after GB treading water for so long......if only KK hadn't gone to Newcastle....who knows!!.....it has to be someone wee can all respect and who will also bring positive focus to the club....I guess I am going for a Shearer + experienced coach combination..., whoever it is, we just need those 30,000 crowds back at SMS with a positive vibe back around the ground and city.

Green To Gold Author Dan Esty to Keynote at Good And Green - The Green ...

HARTFORD, Conn., Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading green marketing expert and author of Green To Gold Dan Esty will give brands insight into how they can use their environmental strategy to innovate, create value and build competitive advantage during his keynote presentation at Good And Green - The Green Marketing Conference, November 29-30, 2007, Chicago Cultural Center. Good And Green is designed to teach mainstream national marketers the techniques, benefits and bottom line impact of connecting with today's ecologically-concerned consumers through green marketing efforts.

"Brands that simply see the eco-movement as a trend and do things that are green in symbolism but not in substance are taking a green-washing approach that is fundamentally unsuccessful as a strategy," says Esty.

Big green ideas for the workplace

Last summer I had a vision of life in a world post-climate change catastrophe. It was around midday on July 20. I was sitting on the 5th floor of an office building in London when the sky suddenly and dramatically turned black, as though night had descended.

"I'm just waiting for the four horsemen of the apocalypse to come riding over the rooftops," quipped one colleague, as the brooding clouds seemed to darken still further.

And then the heavens opened, dumping two month's rain in just a few hours, leading to the worst flooding in years.

Whether last summer's floods had anything to do with global warming is far from certain, but as the torrents rained down on that day last July, what did we all do? We went back to our desks and carried on working.
