| Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence
Part of our ongoing commitment might well express itself in an offer to grant asylum to any Vietnamese who fears for his life under a new regime which included the NLF. Then we must make what reparations we can for the damage we have done. We must provide the medical aid that is badly needed, in this country if necessary. Meanwhile, we in the churches and synagogues have a continuing task while we urge our government to disengage itself from a disgraceful commitment. We must be prepared to match actions with words by seeking out every creative means of protest possible. As we counsel young men concerning military service we must clarify for them our nation's role in Vietnam and challenge them with the alternative of conscientious objection. I am pleased to say that this is the path now being chosen by more than 70 students at my own Alma Mater, Morehouse College, and I recommend it to all who find the American course in Vietnam a dishonorable and unjust one.
SMO alleges threat by Majithia
Even as undertrial Bikramjit Singh of Bohar Wala (Ram Dass) village was shifted from a private AC room to the general ward following yesterdays vigilance raid, senior medical officer (SMO) S.K. Kapur today alleged that public relations minister Bikram Singh Majithia threatened him with consequences if the undertrial was not kept for a longer time in the hospital. However, while talking to The Tribune, Majithia denied that he had ever talked to the SMO for keeping the jail bird in the AC room of the hospital. I have never come across such a person and hence question of recommending him VIP treatment in the hospital does not arise. The minister said his name was being dragged into one or the other controversies without any reason. However, in a recorded statement, the SMO alleged that he had brought the matter to the notice of health minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla.

Beyond the Arc: Winthrop smacks MVC’s rep
Should the final 10 be a consideration for the tournament? Should close losses be a consideration? All of it interesting stuff, even if it was stuff that general fans might glaze over. (Then again, the way people care about the BCS makes me think that as long the information is presented, people will have an interest.) Bilas covered most of what they talked about in his blog last week (in the latest installment of the brilliant back-and-forth he does with SI's Grant Wahl), which, for Bilas, came down to three things that should change when considering the 65 teams that make up the NCAA Tournament: the seeding committee's members, the RPI and criteria. The committee, as Bilas writes “should be comprised not of sitting commissioners and athletic directors, but of a disinterested working group of basketball literate legends like C.M.
Lindsay Lohan off the wagon
Lindsay Lohan has fallen off the wagon yet again, it has been claimed. The 'Mean Girls' star - who spent two months in rehab last year for alcohol addiction - was seen drinking vodka at New York hotspot The Box on Friday night (25.01.08) as she partied with shipping heir Stavros Niarchos, DJ Samantha Ronson and 'The Hills' star Brody Jenner. A fellow clubber told the New York Post newspaper: "Lindsay took a swig of vodka from a bottle of Grey Goose. She was trying to keep a low profile and covering her face." The 21-year-old actress was said to be all over 24-year-old reality TV star Brody at the club, but then moved on to the 1 Oak club with Paris Hilton's ex Stavros. A witness there said: "Lindsay wasn't drinking." Lindsay's representative refused to comment.
Iowa starts 2008 US election race
Most opinion polls suggest an extremely tight three-way race between Democratic contenders Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards. The latest survey prior to the caucuses by Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby showed Senator Obama just ahead of Mr Edwards, with Senator Clinton in third place. The same poll also showed Mike Huckabee extending his lead over his nearest rival Mitt Romney for the Republicans. .
