Fortis transformation reflected in new top management structures

Fortis will restructure its top management as of 1 January 2008.[1] The Executive Committee will be recomposed and responsibilities redistributed. A Business Executive Committee - which will replace the Fortis Management Committee - will be installed and will operate in closest collaboration with a Group Executive Committee. Taking into account the Fortis managers who have already taken up responsibilities within ABN AMRO, Fortis is convinced it now has the adequate management structure in place, not only to guarantee the successful integration of the acquired businesses, but also to develop Fortis as a whole.

1. The Group Executive Committee will consist of:

* Jean-Paul Votron, CEO and Executive Director (Audit reports directly to the CEO);

* Herman Verwilst, Deputy CEO and Executive Director (Human Resources, Public and External Affairs, Business Transformation Office report to the Deputy CEO);

* Gilbert Mittler, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Finance, Risk and General Counsel;

* Filip Dierckx, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Merchant Banking;

* Lex Kloosterman, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Private Banking, Asset Management, Investor Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility;

* Camille Fohl, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Retail Banking and for Global Branding and Communications;

* Peer van Harten, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Insurance and for Real Estate;

* Alain Deschênes, Member of the Group Executive Committee responsible for Technology and Information Services, Operations, Facility, Purchasing and Process Improvement.

Green Isn't Gold for MBAs

The students expected to be leading the green revolution apparently wouldn't mind making some green first.

A company's record on environmental issues ranked at the bottom of factors MBAs are using to select employers, according to a study released Jan. 16 by the public relations firm Hill & Knowlton. Also close to the bottom were other so-called company value issues such as corporate ethics, social responsibility, and community involvement.

At the top of the list: career opportunities, corporate culture and working environment, and benefits. MBAs also expressed a strong preference for companies that produce high-quality products and allow their employees to balance work with their personal life.

According to the study, which surveyed 527 MBA students at 12 top-ranked international business schools, 95% of the students ranked career opportunities as "extremely" or "very important" factors in selecting an employer.

NEW YORK, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Public Relations Association (IPRA) today installed Robert W. Grupp as its President. Grupp brings 30 years of public relations experience to IPRA, with special expertise in international corporate communications. IPRA is an association of nearly 1,100 individual public relations executives in 100 countries.

As President of IPRA, Grupp's role is to expand the organization's global network and to advance the public relations profession in both established and emerging markets. JCPenney store in downtown Coudersport slated for closure

COUDERSPORT — Downtown Coudersport could be facing a tough blow in February with the closing of the JCPenney store, an anchor tenant in the business district.Tim Lyons, public relations officer for the merchandising giant, confirmed plans by JCPenney corporate offices to close the store, eliminating 12 jobs. He described the closing as a "difficult business decision."

Several efforts are under way by business leaders and government officials in Coudersport to save the store, but local leaders concede that the prospects are dim."Losing JCPenney could really hurt Coudersport," said Stan Swank, a vice-president with the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. "People come to Coudersport to shop at JCPenney and then they stop at other businesses, which helps our economy."The Coudersport store has been at the same location since opening in 1930.


Beatty quits, says she regrets 'devastation' caused by scandal

Christine Beatty, 37, resigned her post as chief of staff to Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick this morning, saying the text-message scandal engulfing the administration has left her unable to do her job effectively.

Kilpatrick's office had no comment on Beatty's resignation, and the mayor still has not been seen in public today.

Beatty resigned five days after the Free Press reported in an exclusive investigation that she and the mayor had lied under oath in a whistleblower's suit against the city. Text messages exchanged by the two and obtained by the Free Press contradict what they said on the witness stand about their relationship and about their decision to fire a police officer who was investigating possible wrongdoing by the mayor's staff.

In her letter of resignation, submitted to the city this morning, Beatty said, "I've served the administration and Detroit citizens with diligence, strength and perseverence and I hope that my efforts will one day show through above all else.

QUESTION: Well, I mean when they – when Steinmeier says we’ve agreed on the elements in the resolution – I mean, one might logically assume that if those elements included sanctions he would have said so.

MR. GALLEGOS:Well, since I don’t have it, we haven’t released it, I can’t tell you at this point. But I do know that at an appropriate it will be released and we’ll be able to comment on it further at that time.


Obama's Bid Turns Focus On Class Split Among Blacks

The black vote is key to Mr. Obama in South Carolina where he needs a victory this Saturday following defeat in New Hampshire and a mixed result in Nevada where he lost the caucus vote by 51% to 45% but won one more delegate than New York Sen. Hillary Clinton. His support among blacks across the country is swelling as he proves himself a formidable challenger to Mrs. Clinton, who initially rallied black support because of her and her husband's support of black issues. Despite losing in Nevada, Mr. Obama won about 83% of the black vote, according to exit polls. A CNN poll released last week showed Mr. Obama with almost 60% support among black voters across the U.S., compared with 31% for Mrs. Clinton. Here in South Carolina, several polls have shown Mr. Obama leading Mrs. Clinton by about 8% overall with wide leads among black voters.
